It was a hard choice for our next trip to Norway. We were deciding between Bergen and Lofoten. Afterall we chose to got to Lofoten and there are some pictures from the trip with a few comments.
It took some planning and even though I think it was planned well, it could have been way better. Especially after we’ve been there and experienced it. Transporation and locations could have been organized differently and we could have saved some money on that 🙂 Oh well at least we have recommendations to give to our friends 🙂
Due to an airport technicians and pilots strike, we had our flight canceled and then managed to get later flight, so we had extra time to spent in Bodo near Lofoten (we actually come back here by boat). Quick google map search and found some nice places nearby that we could do in several hours. We took a bus and hiked to a lake. Not bad delayed flight.
Finally arriving to Leknes after long day. Saki already took the rental car and picked us up from the airport. Then we headed to our cabin, it was almost midnight and still sunlight 🙂 as a first moment experience, it was beautiful. Right away ruined by full-day rain next day.
On our driving day and exploring we took Polish couple hitchhikers in our direction to northern part of Lofoten. We took quite a journey and stopped a few places to just take pictures as it definitelly wasn’t hiking day. There were some nice spots with a sunlight through the clouds and beautiful landscapes.
We planned to stay night in Henningsvær airbnb. Bit pricey, but best location for our hill climb to Festvågtind. It took us few hours to go to the top and it was a spectacular view. At the top I met a guy from Czech and we had a nice chat – long time for me to speak in czech language:)
The next day we went for a more traditional hike to Justadtinden. It started with rocky surface and then change to more greenery with lakes and mountains. Very different hike and views compare to our first hike in Henningsvær. Beautiful in its way too. There was for sure one unforgateble moment. Huge amount of flies. We are guessing it was there due to sheep running around. It definitely played huge part of taking the comfort and pleasure from the hike.
After that we moved more south and visited some beaches and got off the main road. Out of the bus route. It was a bit different landscape again, another little village and near Ryten and Kalvika beach hikes. The next day was again raining so didn’t make it for the hikes, but area looked nice.
We drove even more south to some fishreman villages and to village . One letter village and there is some interesting history about it as a long time ago there was some illegal village of fishrmen avoiding taxes.
We had our last hike around the Reine village next day and it was again steep climb for a few hours on stairs. We definitely felt it after and couldn’t properly walk 🙂 The Reine mountain view was quite nice as well. Bit different again with some views of fjords.
I mean all hikes are so rewarding. I really enjoy to spend energy hiking up and then when I am tired and see the beautiful landscape it mentally relaxes me and gives me inner peace at that moment on the top.
We spent our last day in the fishreman village and did a trip to another island for wildlife tour, which was a bit strange, but we saw a few birds and a shark. On the island we did a small bike tour, went to a beach and chill by the lighthouse.
Next day in the morning we go to Moskenes by bus and take a ferry to Bodo, where we were supposed to take the flight, which was canceled again. All prices were to high so we decided to take an overnight train to Trodheim and then next day another day train to Oslo, where it was possibly to buy at least some reasonably priced ticked back to Copenhagen.
Stop in Trodheim was actually quite nice, a few hours hike to a nearby viewpoint. Wandering around the city centre, where they still have some of the original houses on the water. I also went to checkout local game bar, where I played table curling, which was quite fun.
Train ride and the whole travel back was quite tiring, but at the same time going throught these valleys and seeing different landscape from north to south of Norway was great experience as well. We were there at the time of midnight sun, so even travelling during the “night” was spectatulor. We were very happy to come back to our home in Copenhagen.
